Hi Rosemary,
My name is Jeff Gadsdon and back in the England in the 18th Century, when the spelling of surnames was somewhat less precise, both Gadsden and Gadsdon (plus other variants) were used in the registration of births, etc. in the same families. The origin - at least in the late 17th century -of the family appears to be Greater or Little Gaddesden in the county of Hertford in England. I believe there may well be links with this source of 'Gadsdens' and Thomas Gadsden, father of Christopher Gadsden (1723 to 1805), resident of Charleston, S Carolina.
If you have any information re the origins of the said Thomas I would be very interested to hear from you.
Regards,
Jeff Gadsdon
