Another error or oversight to report from the Gaines history book by Sutherd.
The first son of Edmund Pendleton Gaines(1767-1809) and wife, Susannah Broaddus is :
John Broaddus Gaines born 1792 who married Nancy C. Davis.
He is my gr gr gr gr grandfather! He was not listed as a child.
I appreciate the hard work of Calvin E. Sutherd and realize he might not have been able to have a contact to give him this information.
My father's cousin, the late, Rev. Edgar Davis, Sr. of Greenwood South Carolina spent many years of his long life in research of our Gaines line.He has 5 bound manuscrips which I hope will be donated to the SCarolina library at the death of his son, Edgar Davis, Jr. , who is in a nursing home.E.Davis, Jr. is in his 80's. I have spend many hours in the home of Edgar, Sr's home where his widow let me research from these files.I have all the children
of John Broaddus Gaines from these file. Mrs. Davis is
now deceased for many years.
Anyway he should have been listed in the book (John Broaddus)he was the oldest. He attendedPoplar Springs Baptist Church, Laurens County, SCarolina.
and was dismissed in 1816 for a minor offense
maybe killing a neighbors cow, (1816)
my line:

(between Ware Shoals and Laurens)Old Gaines memorial marker is here in the cemeter with genealogy on stone.

My great grandmother, Catherine Elizabeth Gaines married her husband, William Harrison "Duck" Hughes in this house,
and on the same rug!I have a photo of her on her wedding day with the Bible. Date of marriage Nov 8, 1868.
