Looking for info on Louis Gaines & descendents, died in Mobile, AL
I am currently doing some genealogy research on my great-great-grandfather, Louis Gaines.I was fortunate enough to find some info on him last month on a 1900 census in Hinds County, MS while serving time in prison (an unfortunate circumstance). From what I was told thru family passdown that he was convicted of train robbery and was released because of a terminal illness.I don't have the dates of his death, but he died/buried in Mobile, AL.According to the census, he was born into slavery in Dec. 1847 in Louisiana. His father was from SC, and his mother was from MS.After slavery and Civil War ended, he married Alice Smith from AL.From the marriage, they had 4 children: Lillie Mae(b. 1889), Sadie(b. 1894), Johnny(b.1894), and Elijah(b.1898).His wife, Alice, birth date hasn't been confirmed yet, but she died in my hometown of Picayune, MS in 1945.If anybody has some info of any benefit, please let me know.Thanks.
Thomas L. Gaines, Jr.
