Holmes County Ohio Gallions
I received a copy of a letter written by Gracie Belle to her Gallion cousins. She was passing on her recollections of her family.Unfortunately, the letter was not dated. Here is some of the pertinent information:
"My parents were William and Jane Lanham Gallion. His parents were James and Anna Wagers Gallion. His mother died when he was quite young and he was raised in the Wagers home. His father was a school teacher and saddler.Grandma's parents were Isiah and Margaret Croskey Lanham. She had 3 brothers, Snowden who moved west and raised a family, and Moses and James who spent their lives in Holmes County.Grandpa had one brother who served in the Union army and moved west and raised his family in Kansas.Grandma and Grandpa were married in May 1860.Grandma was of Irish descent... Grandpa died in 1902 at the age of 63 from pneumonia...They raised a large family. One child (little Mary) died in infancy.Lorenzo Dow was the oldest and then came Julia Ann, my mother.Next were William Walker and Lewis Riley and then Mary, Mary Etta, Minnie Leonora and John Franklin.Lorenzo Dow married Mary Ann Patterson and raised 10 children.Julia Ann married Walter Lewis Mitten and raised 5 children.William Walker married Josephine Drouhard and raised 9 children.Lewis Riley married Jennie Hoyman and raised 3 children.Mary Etta married John Bucklew and raised 5 children.Minnie Lenora married Floyd Van Sickle and had a son Glendon Floyd. She died very young.John Franklin married Niva Groff and raised 6 children. He was killed by lightning with his oldest son, Ralph, on June 5, 1918.Frank Jr. was lost in battle over the Zeider Zee in World War II."
This information was a great help to me as Lewis and Jennie Gallion are my grandparents.I hope it helps others.
