Re: John Gans in Meigs Co., OH
My John Gans is found in Fayette Co., PA, in the 1790 Federal Census. There just might be a connection.
Hattie Gans, my grandmother (who died before I was born), born 2May1876 WashingtonTwp,Carroll Co.,OH, died 25May1925 Alliance,LexingtonTwp,Stark Co.,OH,dau of Levi GANS, 1850 -1876 Apr 30, both Carroll Co.,OH.As you can see, Hattie's father died just a few days before his "child" (in his will) was born.Levi's wife, Anna(Annie)Jeanette LEYDA 1855 Carroll Co.,OH wed secondly George Mansell GRIMM, had four more children and died in Smithfield,FayetteCo.,PA (my first funeral). Levi had four brothers:George, John(Jack), William & Amos, and sisters Lucinda, Mathilda & Martha.
John GANS, father of Levi, b.1794 FayetteCo.,PA, came to NE Ohio by 1815, settling in Washington Twp,Carroll Co.(it was Stark Co. until Dec 1832 when Carroll Co. was formed).
John was the son of John GANS listed in the 1790 Heads of Families of PA (first Federal Census). I cannot find his wife's name. Other researchers, four German experts and I think he was the John GANS aboard the "Adventurer" which landed in Philadelphia Oct. 1727 & gave oath there. They were listed as Palatines.
I know you probably aren't interested in all the details, but I want to give you as much information which I have verified as possible.
Think there is any connection to your Gans?Hope so!
Hattie married my grandfather, Harry Dawson Wilcoxon August 1900 Lisbon, Columbiana Co.,OH
