Bruno,
Thank you for posting the information that you have on the family name.I have noticed with the group of Gantners who settled in Cambria County [Cty.].,PA that they eventually changed the name to Gauntner.
I find two earlier Gantners first: Peter Gantner [b. ca 1812 d. 9 Jan 1853].He married Balinae Kunz in Cambria Cty..,Pa in 1846.In the 1850 Census of Cambria Cty.., PA he lists his occupation as a stone mason.
The second Gantner I have found would beJoseph [b.ca 1820] a farmer who was married to Barbara Koch [b. ca 1827].It is noted in one of the Baptismal records that she is from Lorraine. Her mother is listed as Catherine Koch but no mention of her father that I have found.I find noted later by one of the children on a census record that they believe that Joseph is from Bavaria, GER.This couple Joseph Gantner and Barbara Koch had 13 children, at least in the Cambria Cty., PA
The first mention of the Gantner family which I have so far found is in Baptismal record of 1845.
This family is an indirect line for my search but I have a feeling that many of my direct lines end up with in a 100 miles of Lorraine. There are FLICKS, I have heard are from Alsace. There are Bishops from Switzerland.I truly think my FISHERSare from Switzerland.
This is a new surname which I am searching so I may be a bit unclear - I am sorry.Yet if you know these families I would be very interested in sharing information.
