A Book of Garretts -- some questions

Would appreciate answers to questions arising from a brief chance at a library to look at A BOOK OF GARRETTS by Hester E. Garrett (1963).
1.At p. 194, she cites notes from Mrs. E. P. Garrett of Belle Mina, Alabama, that there was a John Garrett born about 1630-40, who died before 1672 in Henrico County, whose wife was Katherine.
I am looking for the evidence which led her to identify the wife of this John Garrett as a Katherine. If the name Katherine is ascribed only to family tradition, then the earliest record of that tradition and the age and relationship of the relator.
2.The author states that no evidence has been found that Charles Garrott (who died before the Spring of 1782) was married to Molly Ayres. She accepts the marriage as a family tradition.
I am interested in knowing the earliest date in each line of descent from Charles Garrott where it was recorded that Charles was married to Molly Ayres.
This tradition appears to be the strongest in the line descending from Isaac Garrott and Molly Agee.If the statement can be proved to have been made by a grandchild of Charles, it would be particularly strong.
Is this tradition found at an early time in a descending line from one or more siblings of Isaac? If so, what are the particulars?
