This is in relation to the posting below and I can't seem to attach it so I am sending it separately. This is related to the email I sent to this board a month ago re: Ritchey men marrying Garrison girls. I can't seem to attach it to that posting.
In a book entitled "MARRIAGE RECORDS OF BARREN COUNTY, KENTUCKY 1799-1849" by Martha Powell Reneau, 1984, at DAR Library in Washington, DC, there is a list of Ritchey marriages. Two of them are Ritchey men marrying Garrison girls.
One is Elijah Ritchey m. Matilda Garrison, 23 August, 1823, Surety posted by Shadrach Garrison, Consent: Personal Consent given by her father.
The other is Obadiah Ritchey to Nancy Garrison, 10 Dec.1838, Sur: Jonathan Thomas, Consent: by mother, Margaret Garrison. Witness Will Garnett, Consent: Stephen Ritchey, Witness: Samuel M. ritchey and Jonathan Thomas, Married:10 Dec 1838 by W.D. Jourdan
I thought perhaps Nancy was the daughter of my Paul Garrison. but I was told by another Garrison poster that Nancy's mother Margaret was Shadrach's wife. I can find NO Margarets married to Shadrach!.
However, in the book "Camden District, SC. Wills and Administrations 1781-1787 (1770-1796)" abstracted by Brent H. Holcomb, G. R. S. and Elmer O. Parker (available at my library in Santa Cruz) there is a will for a John Hawthorne Sr., which was witnessed by PAUL GARRISONand MARGARET GARRISON , March 16, 1784.
Paul was in the 1790 census for Pendleton Co., SC. and there is mention of a name of a man having owned the property earlier, James Ogllvie, connected with my Paul Garrison in Md.
So I do believe Nancy's mother Margaret Garrison is the wife of my Paul Garrison who likely was dead by then. He was in the Barren Co., Ky,/Smith Co., Tenn (Walker Line moving back and forth put him and his son Edmund in Barren Co. and Smith Co. at the same time and in the same place for the 1810/1820 censuses...with taxes paid to Barren Co )I last find him in the 1820 census for Smith Co. So that would be why his wife gave consent for Nancy's marriage instead of Paul.
Add to this the mother of two girls who have Ritchy blood and that Ritchy line was from Kentucky, telling me I look just like her daughters and she can't get over it....and I think the girls have Garrison blood through their Ritcheyancestor in Ky and that is why we look alike!
