I'm looking for a Gary woman who lived in Newberry County in the mid-to-late 1700s. She was probably born in the 1760s and may have been related to Cary Davis Gary.
She was definitely related to a William Gary who died Sept. 1, 1800, but I don't know how. He was somehow related to a West Gary, and there was also an Elizabeth Gary involved. These are all names mentioned in the estate records of this unknown Gary woman's young husband who died (Cary Gilbert).
I believe Cary and this woman had three children: William, Patience and Mathias. Cary died in 1802 leaving a young widow and three young childrn.
I've found in some family files online that there was a Cary Davis Gary born in 1803 in Newberry. I can't say for sure, but I strongly suspect this child was named for Cary Gilbert who died the previous year. Cary Davis Gary was the son of a John Gary b. 1769 in Newberry according to the family file I found. Did John have a sister??
Chances are that Cary Gilbert's young widow remarried. Assuming that happened, estate records for her parents would likely refer to her by her second husband's last name, but the Gilbert grandchildren might be mentioned.
