Re: Lovey GASKINS m. Lewis SPEARS (Craven Co., NC) - MYSTERY!
Well... that is an interesting idea-- that Lovey was just staying with John and his family to help out with the little children.
I already had the following information on Seth & Serena (because originally I had them listed as her parents) and this might be helpful to you:
b. 1 Dec 1809
d. 31 Jan 1880
m. 5 May 1836 to SERENA GASKINS
b. abt 1817
I have read a couple of resources that refer to her as a Bland, but I'm not sure why. Perhaps she was a Bland as a maiden name and was a widow with the last name Gaskins, although I doubt it because she would be a very young widow.
Another possibility is that her middle name was Bland.
Yet another possibility is that she didn't have anything to do with any Blands at all.
As for the marriage between WILLIAM GASKINS and MARY SQUIRES, here's an interesting bit of info.... there is a very high probability that MARY SQUIRES is a direct descendant of-- or at the very least a close relation to the King (Chief) of the Mattamuskeet Indians of Hyde County, JOHN SQUIRES. I'm researching the Squires line right now for that very likelihood.

Thanks for your reply!
