John Caleb Gates of Beaver Valley Cambric Co. Pa.decendents
Hello Gates,
I was wondering how many Gates are still in the Beaver Valley area? My family left several generations ago. Early 1900's. They were mostly connected to the mining industry. We are decendents of Michael, John and Elizabeth Gates' oldest son. Some of our group still lives in southwest Pa. Very few are in the mining jobs today.
Our gg-grandfather William Michael(210th Pa) served in the Civil War. His brother Caleb was killed in Tenn. He was with the Pa. 45 vol. A half-brother Henry Augustine Gates (i think 125th & 49th Pa), was also a veteran of the Civil War. He was the oldest of the brothers.
I am collecting old photos and stories of the family from thw 1800's and early 1900's. I have only one of the first generation born in America, (Levi Gottlieb Gates). Is there any photos of the Civil Was veterans? How many decendents served in the Civil War? Are there any of the ones whom served in WWI? How many served there. My grandfather,Hobart was a veteran of WWI. also he had a brother, JD whom served.
Thanks for any help, George Gates
