Ancestry of Two Ann Gatewoods
I am trying to establish the ancestry of two Ann Gatewoods who married Francis Nalle and William Nalle in Virginia in the 1700s.
Francis Nalle (born circa 1740 in Orange Co., VA) married Ann Gatewood (died between 1810 and 1816) about 1762.Their youngest son, Larkin Gatewood Nalle was born about 1783.Original speculation was that this Ann Gatewood was the daughter of Larkin Gatewood who was the son of Henry Gatewood, who died in 1777.However, after examining the will of Henry Gatewood and some of the known chronology, this link is improbable.More recent speculation is that this Ann Gatewood was the daughter of Richard Gatewood (died about 1777 in Spotsylvania Co., VA) and Frankie Tyler Gatewood. Richard Gatewood names a son, Larkin Gatewood, in his will.So it is possible that the youngest son of Francis Nalle and Ann Gatewood Nalle was named after his uncle.
The oldest son of Francis Nalle and Ann Gatewood Nalle was William Nalle, who was born about 1764 in Culpeper Co., VA and died circa 1847 in Culpeper Co., VA.William Nalle is said to have married another Ann Gatewood (died between 1806 and 1810) in 1787.This Ann Gatewood is said to have been the niece or cousin of William's mother.
There is another connection between the Gatewood and Nalle families. The mother-in-law of Richard Gatewood's (born circa 1681) first wife, Rachel Kemp, was Ellianor Willis. She was also the mother-in-law of Martin Nalle, the immigrant ancestor of Francis and William Nalle.
Any help will be appreciated.
