I think I can be of help.My ggg grandmother
was Theresa GATY b. 19 Aug 1794 in Adams Co.
Pennsylvania (Conewago twp.).Her father was George GATY who came from Italy with his
brother, Joseph...I have no date as yet. Anyway, I did find this interesting entry
about Joseph "GATTY"in the Federal Gazette
dated May 31, 1796. "Artist from Italy" #79,
So.Front St.-made thermometers, barometers,
blew decorative glass ware and made artificial fireworks. George came to St. Charles, Missouri, in 1797 with his wife,
Christiana Smith or Schmidt and 4 children:
John, Mary, Christiana and Theresa. Theresa
married Lewellyn Turnbaugh from Marion, Kentucky. Their son James W.C.Turnbaugh was
born 1827/29, in St. Charles Co. James was
married to Sara McCoy and they had my g.grandmother Elizabeth Therese b. 10 Oct.1852 in St. Charles, as well... who later
settled with her husband, William Green in
the town of Portage Des Sioux close to where
the Mississippi and Missouri rivers merge.
Because of the spelling and the location I
think perhaps your Gatys could be related
to George Gaty's son, John, who married a
Jerusha Van Burkleo 11 Oct. 1810 in St. Charles.Happy hunting!
