Hi Bonnie its a while since we corresponded but I have been looking at your messages to Geraldine Roberts I am also in touch with Geraldine we seem to be descendents from the Gavaghan families from Batley we both must have lived in that area but never new one another and neither of us live there now, I am a descendent of the other Gavaghan family that lived close by this was Thomas wife Bridget sons John, Thomas, Joseph and James daughters Catherine Briget Mary and Ann (known as Annie she was my grandmother ) she died in 1956 it seems almost certain that your John the father of Catherine later Brennan and my g grandfather Thomas were brothers which make,us and Geraldine all distant cousins on the 1881 census 3 lots of Gavaghans were living at Churchfield terrace by then Thomas had died and a younger brother Micheal was living there with his family also two of john and Thomas,s sisters were there Ann who was married to George Connelley and Mary who was married to Thomas Gannon both had a number of children incidently part of Churchfield Terrace is still standing today this is whare most of the Irish lived in the streets around there and when all the old houes were pulled down in the 50/60ties they built a social club on the sight called the Irish National working mens club its got a big membership from all parts of the world so they say there probebly were other siblings of the Gavaghan family besides the ones I have mentioned and on some of the marriage certificates the father is another John occupation a farmer weather this was still in County Mayo or Batley we dont know the first I came across them was on the 1851 census but only the Connelleys were on that one, the wife of course being Ann Gavaghan and the first of my g grandfatherThomas was his first marriage at 23 to a Catherine Richardson who died in Childbirth in 1859 he then married my g grandmother Bridgit in 1860 and had 9 children hope this gives you some insite into the lives of the family please do write when ever you want to as I am always inetrested in the family history best bregards Joanna Rich
