Ann,
Difficult to know when women in the older days stopped having children, as seems fairly common to
find them having children until their "biological clocks stopped ticking".However, if the age is correct
for Andrew Gay in this census, as well as Franklin Gay, seems unlikely that Andrew Gay was having
children at age 15, but there are transcription errors and typos in some of the transcribed data, which
is what the 1880 census data came from, so hard to know.Ifthis Andrew Gay could be located in
the 1870 census, might add alot to the clues about this particular Andrew Gay family., as well as
finding Mariah in 1870 census.Did Mariah have other children besides Thomas Franklin Baker
with James Baker?Did James Baker die in the civil war or ??Just curious, as this is not my
GAY family that I know of anyway. My ancestors were from the Allen Gay and Abigail Castleberry family lines.
However, have done quite a bit of research on the Gay families in AL and GA in trying to "round up" all
those descendants ofAllen Gay and Abigail Castleberry family. The way that these large families
repeated the names down through the lines of descendency can be mind boggling to say the least.
