It's my understanding that my great grandfather Willaim Gaynor immigrated to Canada during the Potato famine with his brother and down into the Northern part of Wisconsin in the 1860's and eventually into Chicago where my dad grew up.

My dad also tells me that the Spelling GAINER is because when our ancestors came over and entered the country the immigration people often mispelled the name from GAYNOR to GAINER because of the way it is pronounced. They basically didn't check with the immigrants for spelling when they gave them their names, they just assumed it, so eventually the Gaynor's who had their names misspelled ended up changing their names but for the most part come from the same Ancestory. The Gaynor Clan
