Re: Joseph Gaynor and martha gaynor/michael carolan
my sister kay and i visited ireland last july and were fortunate to look at the catholic parish records for moynalvy which is the equivalent to the civil parish of derrypatrick. These were in the national library of ireland in dublin on library reelp4178.we found heaps of gaynors and the marriage record of joseph gaynor and mary mcmanus on the 3/6/1826.we found three sons - philip (buried in derrypatrick cemetary), james and john(ours). We attempted to write down any gaynors whether they were a sponsor, witness, child baptism or parents names.
We did find patrick carlin (this spelling is only what we thought it said as some of the writing left much to the imagination) was born 16/3/1873, parents michael and martha gaynor. Sponsors were patrick gaynor and jane christy. The other mention of a gaynor/carolan conection was the birth of mary mcclare, father thomas and mother margaret gaynor - sponsons were jas carolan (correct spelling) and mary fitzpatrick, and i do have a martha gaynor born to christopher gaynor and mary keogh- date is 14/10/1826. Martha had a brother Philip born 14/5/1818 (but not my philip who is buried in the derrypatrick cemetary). Chrispher's (b. 21/12/1798) parents were william gaynor and eleanor proudfoot. There seems to be a connection between your gaynors and mine as christopher is one of the sponsors for the john of my family. we could not find the parents of joseph gaynor but it could well be william and eleanor but it was not on that reel.I have stacks of other family names connected with gaynors (but which family i dont know)
hope this help with your search but if you get to ireland it would be worth looking at that reel again as it is possible we missed some names.
