Hi Jane,
As I take a more careful look at the document, I’m sure it is the same people. For Alexander, I see now that it reads 1st (not 11th) May 1818 – but the last 8 overwrites a 7, so originally it read 1st May 1817.
For Mary, it reads she was born 11th May 1819 and also that she died 30 March 1864.Does this match your records?
And for James, the year of his birth on the document is 1822 but the last two digits might be overwriting a different date.Unfortunately, it’s not clear enough to be certain.
I’ll have a scan made of it later this afternoon. If you want to send me (at [email protected]) your email address, I’ll send you a copy.Maybe you’ll be able to make some sense of the Colise.
With what you have provided above, it confirms what we thought on our side – that the document was part of the papers of my wife’s great grandparents. They were James McIlreath (born Glasgow 17 April 1853 to James McIlreath and Catherine Ferguson) and Elizabeth McGillvray (born 1858 to John McGillvray and Catherine Hill). He was a goldsmith in Glasgow before coming to the US in the 1880’s.I went through the info at your link but couldn’t find any familiar surnames. If you, or any one there, knows a connection, it would be most appreciated.
