Germany, whose death was listed in the family Bible as 5 May 1861, 5 months before Robert's marriage to his second wife.)Robert had three sons with this first wife:James Benjamin b. 16 Sept 1847 d. 24 Nov 1911; William Levaling b. 9 Nov 1853 d. 8 Mar 1854; and John B. b. 21 May 1856 d. Feb. 1880.
Robert m. 2) Martha Elizabeth Sprouse 8 Oct 1861, possibly in Carroll Co., MS, where Martha's family was listed in the 1860 census.Robert & Martha had one daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Germany b. 3 Jul 1864, and adopted one son, Willie Waldo b. 3 Aug 1873, who was left on their doorstep in MS, according to the 1880 census.
Robert served in the 11th MS State Cavalry, Perrin's Regiment, as teamster for Co. E and later Co. I.He enlisted in that unit in Choctaw Co., MS 6 Oct 1863, along with Howell C. Germany who was AOL after Apr. 1864.
6 Feb 1875 a deed of sale for a horse was registered by Robert in Yalobusha Co., MS, and mentioned the horse was located on "the plantation which he now cultivates".
In the late 1870's, Robert and all his children, as well as a relative of his wife's, migrated to Lamar Co., TX, where they are enumerated on the 1880 census.By the time of Robert's death 7 Jun 1886, Robert, Martha and their daughter and adopted son were living in Ink, Polk Co., AR, where Robert is buried in Concord Cemetery.
Who was Robert Smith Germany?I've been unable to tie him into any known Germany line so far, and would appreciate any clues.
