on the 8th august, at libau, russia, after a short illness, william, the dearly beloved husband of charlotte gier, 5 alderson street, west hartlepool.
death of mr william gier
information has been received in west hartlepool of the death of mr william gier, who has resided in alderson street, and who was at one time chartering clerk for messrs casper & company, and latterly occupied the same position under messrs fawcett & company. some time ago the deceased gentleman proceeded to libau, russia, on business for the firm. a day or so after the arrival of the vessel a letter came from messrs fawcett's agent at the port, stating that mr gier had had to go in hospital, owing to him having become very ill through sea-sickness. nothing further was heard until thursday, at about noon a telegram had brought the sad news that mr gier had succumbed. further particulars are hourly expected. the deceased gentleman, who was a native of germany, but had resided in england for many years, leaves a widow and several children to mourn their loss.
