My gx5 grandfather was Donald Gillies, who was born in Kilmartin around 1770. He married Janet Crawford in Inveraray in 1798, and they had children Euphan, Mary (both died in infancy), Alexander, Hugh, Annie, Donald, Archibald and John.

The John above is not "your" John, and Gillies is a very common name in Kilmartin, but given the location and the same forenames being used, there's a strong possibility we're related.
