My husband's line had kin in Brooklyn. See below. Do any of the names below seem familiar? It is possible there is a connection.
My husband's GILLIS line was in Queens County,NY (Astoria) in 1870.
William (born in 1812 in IRE-died 1891),wife Anna, four girls and one son William (1862-1933)-they had a shoestore in Astoria. The above son William who was the third William in a row married Mary Jane (Polly) BENNETT (1860-1942-born in Long Island City). They left Queens at the turn of the century. They moved to Spring Valley, NY.
In the family cemetary plot in Queens, besides known family members, there are two HOWELLs, two
BAISLEYs, a CRAIG and a STOREY.There are a few GILLIS names we don't know-Annie, Margaret, Isaac & Robert. Some of the above come from Brooklyn and some from Glen Cove.
Other family surnames are COOK, MATTHEWS, DUNBAR AND KERR.
