Re: Samuel Baldridge Gilmore and Margaret McMechan
Jay--William Gilmore(1760-1836) and his family moved from Rockbridge Co. VA to Ohio ca. 1818. He died Sep 1836 while visiting two of his sons--James (1790-1845), who moved to Putnamville as early as 1824; and Thomas, who in spring of 1836 left KY where he'd been living, and moved to Green Castle, Putnam Co.
I searched through "History of the House of Ochiltree", which is now available online via google, but no Henry Gilmore.
In looking at the additional info you sent, I'm wondering if your Gilmore/Gilmer line was from one in N.C. and not VA. As you suggest, it would seem likely that Henry was related to Henry, Sr., who could be the older male in the 1830 census. If so, he was born between 1770-1780. At that time, the Kerrs Creek/Rockbridge Co. VA Gilmores had not left Va. The other thing that strikes me is the name "Henry".Much more common in NC and not the Blue Ridge, VA families.
Certainly makes me curious. If I come up with anything more I'll let you know, and hope you'll do likewise.
