Bobbie:I too believe Jack Girty is the father of Snake Girty.I recently acquired a copy of Ned (alias Ed) Girty's Application to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs for monies appropriated by the Act of Congress in 1906.Ned states his father is Snake Girty and written on the side of the application is: brothers to Snake-Buck and Wilson Girty. Also written is Snake Girty, son of Jack, Old Settler, Canadian, 109.Wilson Girty's Application for Enrollment in the Cherokee Nation states his father is Jack Girty and Jack's Cherokee name is Panther.
The Old Settler Roll-1851 shows: Girty,Jack- Group 109, District-Canadian; also listed in Group 109 is Buck,Chelorneejay,Garteeyar, Keryoujay, Lydia, Quatee, and Wilson, all with last name of Girty. Hope this helps.
