Thank you, Shirley, for your very kind words. I've been posting these notices of portraits on the genforum surname sites for about 2 years now, and have so far posted about 80 notices on 80 genforum sites.
I have probably had about 20 responses, or requests for copies, so far. Recipients are uniformly very grateful for the service.
It has almost become a hobby. I hated to see the portraits in antiques magazines and auction catalogs that I see and subscribe to not being brought to the notice of families who would love to see the pictures of their ancestors if they only knew of them. Scanning the portraits and putting these notices on all the genforum surname sites, I hope, will make that possible. It may take years in the long run, but those notices are sitting on all those sites just waiting for family members in the future to find them and to request copies from me.
I'm 71 years old now, so I guess I'd better make arrangements with one of my 3 sons to continue the service when I'm gone--I expect to be around another 10 years though. Nevertheless, I'd better make arrangements. One of my sons is the computer technician at a school in North Carolina and he may be just the person to do it for me. Every year I'llput together a CD with each of the 80+ pictures on it by name, give him a copy and update it each year. Piece of cake with this wonderful computer technology.
Thank you, Shirley, for being so graciously generous and kind with your words of appreciation. Noone has said them quite so well before.
