Hi, my name is Niall Boyle. My mother was Nuala Glackin the daughter of Patrick Glackin from Donegal. he came from the townland of Tuberkeen in the Rosses which is west cental Donegal virtually on the coast. My grandfather boxed in America before returnung to Ireland. However hea has many nueces and nephews still in New York or New Jersey.such as Charlie Glackin who was in the NYPD.
Our family has always believed that the Glackins originated in Germany as most of the boys are called Charles and Henry from the German Karl and Heinrich. The story persisted that the Gkackins of Donegal were descended from threee German brothers who settled in ireland probably in the erarly C19th. This would tie in with expulsions of Germans in 1819 by Metternich who clamped down on nationalism, liberalism and democracy in Germany.
However, My ousin Dr Paddy G;lackin discovered that there was O' Glackins in Donegal in the C17th and one was the chief physician to the King of France circa 1650.
Pertaining to a hugh Glackin it is known that some of the Glackins moved to Galway whom Irish tinkers mentioned to my Grandmother in the 50s and there are other Glackins in the Derry city area>
