My Name is Frank Glackin and I am from Glenswilly, Co. Donegal. I have posted here a few years ago when this all started. There are quite a lot of Glackins in Donegal, Dungloe, Maghery, Ballybofey, Newtowncunningham, Glenswilly, Glenfin, Letterkenny, etc. I am led to believe the name originated in the area between Gweedore and Dungloe. An old woman I was talking to years ago, told me that the name "glacáin" our name in gaelic as it is still spelt today, came from a band/bracelet that that they put on a chickens leg when it was laying or the chickens that the rooster still hadn´t played its part with. The story goes along these lines anyway. This could be quite possible as people often had nicknames at first when so many people had a common name. Its the best explanation I`ve heard yet. Hopefully this helps out.
