Dear Deb,
The LDS ordinance info is dates in which temple ordinances such as baptism etc. were done for him in the temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. The decendants of Samuel's brother John joined this church and part of their beliefs is that each person needs to have certain ordinances done in order to have all the blessings that God has for us.Baptism is one of these ordinances.Another is called an endowment and then there are the sealing ordinances which unite families forever such as sealing a child to it's parents and sealing a husband to his wife so that the family links will not be broken. This is why geneaolgy is so important to to members of this church. It is important to note that even though these ordinances are done for those who have gone on it is something that the deceased has a full right to refuse if they so desire. The work is done to give them every benifit and opportunity that they may have missed in this life. These ordinances are also availible to those members of this church who want them in their lifetime. These are very important beliefs which those who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints hold very dear.I too am a member of this Church.
LDS ordinance dates:
Baptism 11 Sept 1888
Endowment 10 feb 1889
Sealing to Parents 11 Jul 1947 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple
It appears that these ordinances were repeated as someone probaly wasn't aware of the earlier dates.Theses dates are as follows:
Baptism 30 Mar 1946
Endowment 17 May 1946 in the Saint George, Utah Temple
Sealing to Parents 21 May 1970 in the Logan, Utah Temple
To answer your question about members of Samuels family being Clothiers the answer is Yes!His father was a Clothier and his brother John was a Weaver. In my notes for John I found this inforrmatio about where John lived and some sources of imformation about John that may have reference to Samuel especially the Parish records.
John apparently moved just a few miles to the west to the Shaw-Crompton-Oldham area across the West Yorkshire boundary into Lancashire. There the family remained until some (children Edward, Mary Peggy, and James) joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and migrated to the USA and on to Utah.
Sources of info for John (Samuel may be included in some):

I hope this answers your questions.I also have Samuels ancestors on His Gledhill line clear back to about 1200 something if you would like it.
I will spend a little time checking out more on Samuel's marriage and family then I'll let you know.
Katie
