Alfred E. Gloyd was the brother of my great-grandfather.He died 23 Jun 1909 in Spencer, Clay County, Iowa, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Clay County, Iowa.
A newspaper clipping obituary, which is not identified nor dated says:
Alfred E. Gloyd was born December 17, 1841 at Delavan, Wisconsin.When very young he removed to Kilbourne City the same state.He, in the spring of 1861 inlisted [sic] in Co. E. 12th Wisconsin Regiment but was discharged for disability the following spring.In the spring of 1864 he went to Montana and has spent nearly all of his life in the west being engaged in ranching largely.
Owing to increasing physical infirmities he found refuge in the Soldiers home at Sautell, California, until July 1907 when he came to Spencer.
Until within a few weeks he has made his home with his sister, Mrs. D. C. Gillespie but at the time of his death he was residing with his brother, Gurdeon.Death came to him on Wednesday, the 23d day of June, 1909 and the buriel services were held last Friday the 25th of June conducted at the home of his brother by Rev. Ernest E. Day of the Congregational church and at the grave in Riverside cemetery by the Masonic Lodge of this place.
Mr. Gloyd is survived by two sisters, Mrs. D. C. Gillespie, of this place, and Mrs. A. D. Smith, of Redfield, South Dakota, also two brothers, Gurdeon and J. R. Gloyd, of Spencer.
