MRS EMILY GODFREY; Mrs. Emily Ruth Godfrey, 87, widow of the late J. Allen Godfrey, prominent Benton Harbor business man, died this morning at 3:50 a.m. in the Merrill Rest Home, Coloma, MI.Four months ago Mrs. Godfrey fell and received a fractured hip.She was a patient at Meroy Hospital for nine weeks.Since that time she had been at the rest home.
She was born Dec 20, 1872 in Lowell, Mi., and had been a resident of this community since 1920.
Mrs. Godfrey married April 25, 1895 in Lowell.Her husband, who operated the J. Allen Godfrey Shade Co., here, preceded her in death Feb. 26th, 1953.
Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Paulsen of Benton Harbor and Mrs. Joseph Davini of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grand children and one great grandchild.Three brothers, Clinton Weeks of Ionia, Leon Weeks of Lowell, and Ara Weeks of Saranac, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Betchelor of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Edith Hapeman of Lowell, also survive.
Mrs. Godfrey was a member of the Methodist Peace Temple, the WSCS of the Church and the Crickets On the Hearth.She was formerly a member of the Eastern Star.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Florin funeral ome with Rev. Stanley Buck, DD, Pastor of the Methodist Peace Temple, officiating.Graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell.
