CREEDMOOR, N.C. – Mary Godfrey Best departed this life Dec. 24, 2011 peacefully in her home. She was the wife of Marvin Best and the mother of two girls and several stepchildren. Born in Saxapahaw, N.C., July 31, 1944, she was the daughter of Dewey and Mary Godfrey. She attended high school in Alamance County, and received a college degree from Durham Technical Community College. Retired from GlaxoSmithKline, she is survived by her husband Marvin Best, two daughters Angela M. Smoke and Naressa H. Menser of Durham, N.C., three grandchildren Akiyah N. Smoke, Jhadia L. Menser and Iyona N. Menser of Durham, N.C., one son-in-law Derry A. Menser, Durham, N.C., several stepchildren, sister Helen Johnson of Saxapahaw, N.C. and many nieces and nephews. Going-home celebration will be on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary United Church of Christ, 1715 Athens Ave., Durham, N.C.
