According to the information that I have thus far, Nicholas Godfrey was the third oldest child of Hezekiah W. and Sophia (nee Weeks) Godfrey of Tuckahoe, Cape May, NJ. Nicholas was captain of the "Mary F. Godfrey," built by Hezekiah and named for the wife of Nicholas's brother Richard W., also a ship captain. There is a story, apparently passed down by Richard's family, that on one voyage, during a bad storm Uncle Nick was washed overboard by one wave and then washed back on by the next. The ship was later lost at see off Jacksonville, FL, but the crew saved ( http://newspapers.oceancitylibrary.org/data/2000-2009/OceanCitySentinel/2001/08-23-2001.pdfhttp://newspapers.oceancitylibrary.org/data/2000-2009/OceanCitySentinel/2001/08-23-2001.pdf (Accessed 30 August 2012.). My records indicate that Nicholas was born abt 1838 in Cape May, Cape May, NJ, and died 8 Oct 1899 in Brooklyn, Kings, NY. Maurice was the 3rd ship captain in the family. At this point in my research there is no known connection with Leesburg. Hope this helps.
