Obit: E. Genevieve (Golter) Dow b.1909 Greensboro, NC
NORTH HAMPTON — E. Genevieve Dow, 95, formerly of Mill Road, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, where she had been a resident since October of 2003.
She was born April 27, 1909, in Greensboro, N.C., the daughter of the late John and Cecelia (Sutton) Golter, and had resided in North Hampton since 1933.
She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and the former Portsmouth Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Dow was a registered nurse and worked at the Portsmouth Hospital for many years, where she served as director of nursing, and also in private duty in the Seacoast area. For several years, she served as private nurse to former Massachusetts Gov. Alvin T. Fuller. With her husband, she operated the S.A. Dow and Son General Store of North Hampton, located where Joe’s Meat Market is today.
She was a communicant of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Portsmouth, and a former member of the North Hampton Woman’s Club.
The widow of Gordon S. Dow, who died in 1980, she is survived by one son, Bruce G. Dow of North Hampton; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Cecelia Edwards of Eliot, Maine.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Cynthia Antell, in 2002, and one sister, Doris Golter.
There are no calling hours.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Spring burial will be in Center Cemetery, North Hampton.
