An interesting biography/family history of Charles W. Goodale is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2, pg 514.
Parents: Warren and Ellen R. (Whitmore) Goodale, both born in Marlboro, MA; married in 1852. Warren was a tutor in the Royal School in Honolulu, HI, and subsequently was appointed marshall of the kingdom, and collector of customs. Ellen was a teacher of Cherokee Indians in what is now eastern Oklahoma.
When Ellen died in 1861, Warren took Charles & the other 4 children to live with an uncle on the family homestead in Marlboro, MA. Warren enlisted and rose to rank of captain in the Civil War, then moved back to Hawaii where he was involved in the sugar industry. He died in Honolulu, Feb 1897, age 72.
Charles Goodale was educated in Marlboro; graduated from English high school in Boston; earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass. Institute of Technology. In 1876, Charles located to Black Hawk, CO; 1880, Tombstone, AZ; 1885 to Butte, MT, where he was prominent in the mining industry. He lived in Great Falls, MT, 1889-1901, then returned to Butte. Charles did not marry.
Charles Goodale died at the home of his brother in Boston, MA, Apr 1929, Age 75 (Havre Daily News Promotor, 12 Apr 1929).
