Marian, my family too originated in the Clonakilty area. My maternal grandmother was Josephine Goodchild died in 1953 aged 67. Her father was Richard Goodchild who served in the British navy and when he was retired out on bad helath he worked on the West Cork railway in the Enniskeane area. His father was John I think, and he settled in Dunmanway/Enniskeane/ Coolmountain area. All these areas are near to Clonakilty. I believe they were weavers and were brought to Ireland as workers for a large estate, from the Plymouth area, about the 1700's. Could there be a connection between us? They were Church of Ireland originally as far as I know. The Christian names they used were John Richard David and Elizabeth. Some of them were "red heads" orginger haired I believe!!!!!
