I am seeking information on a probable Goode connection to a Williams family in Richmond/Brunswick Co., VA. The data is as follows:
Luke Williams, b. 1722 in Richmond Co., VA is said to have married Lucy Goode. (No source for her surname is given, but the Parish Registers give her name as Lucy. I have found no evidence of her maiden name.) Luke and Lucy had a son, Roger Mackerness Williams, who married Catherine Reade Quarles (dau. of James Quarles and Catherine Reade) in 1785 Brunswick Co., VA. Roger and Catherine moved to Edgefield Co., SC. Among their children was a son named Mackerness Goode Williams.
In addition to son Roger Mackerness Williams, Luke and Lucy Williams had: 1. William Williams b. 1745/6 2. Thomas Williams b. 1756 and m. Rachel Brown (she married Lewis Holloway after Thomas' death and moved to Edgefield) 3. Butler Williams b. 1753 and m. Anne (mnu). He also moved to Edgefield. 4. Anne Williams b. 1747/8 5. Lucy Williams 6. Harris Williams 7. Joannah Williams b. 1760 8. Sarah Williams (twin of Joannah) b. 1760 9. Mildred Williams m. unknown Dowlin 10. Barbara Williams (m. William Newsom?) 11. Samuel Williams b. 1749 12. Judith Williams b. 1751
Luke's 1786 will in Richmond Co. does not include a wife, so Lucy may have been deceased by that time. It is also unknown whether Luke had been married to anyone else after Lucy.
If anyone has information to share regarding a Goode connection in the above family that would explain the names Roger Mackerness and Mackerness Goode Williams, I would greatly appreciate your help.
