1. George Williams did absolutely zero research from the Goodell line.He was only a compiler. All the mistakes found in his book are not his, but various researchers who submitted their work.Mr Williams, did a great job in collecting vast amounts of data on the Goodell line, but he did no research.
2. The researcher who claimed that Robert and Catherine were married at Easterham, England, did sloppy research. There is no such place as Easterham.Try to find it.There is a East Dereham, Norfolk, England.Stan Jarvis, a professional genealogist living inEngland, hired by my father in the early 1960swrote to the Vicar of East Dereham forthe marriage record and was subsequently informed that marriage records went back only to 1679.So if this researcher tells you that they were married at Easterham, Suffolk, England in 1629,I would like to know from what source did he/she acquire to come to this conclusion.
3. Concerning the will of Elizabeth Goodale. From this information we see that one of the daughters of Elizabeth, Alice, married a Henry Kilham. We also know that Henry's grandson, Lot Kilham married into the Goodell(Goodale) line. But just because of these two marriages, why do we have to assume that Catherine's last name was Kilham or some variant?
I have read Dr. Robert L. Goodale's (Ipswich Mass.) research concerning the Goodell/Goodales in England. His research is excellent but seems to be focused on the origins of this name.Prof.Isaac Goodell (Texas)has done a lot of similar research and I know they contradict each other sometimes. However, neither one of them have taken the time to do specific research on certain individuals such as Catherine_______ who married Robert Goodell of Dennington. As far as I know, the first search for Catherine's records was done in the 1950s by a Mr Scoville of Ogden Utah and found no records, he was the first to locate Robert's parents though. My father did another search in the 1960s did not have any luck as well. The closest he came was when Mr Jarvis found a property record that mentions a Katheryn Mitchell in 1619 being help with payment of some sort by a Robert Goodale and Joane Artys. From Mr Scoville's research he found fromthe Dennington Parrish recordsinformation that Robert and Joane were parents of Robert (the Immgrant to America). As far as we know that parents of Robert Goodell is where the line stops. As far as Catherine, we really have no proof of her last name.Nor is there any proof ofThomas Goodale's relationship to Robert and we have no proof that he brought the coat of arms to America.
The LDS website has over 70 submissions of the Robert/Catherine Goodell and most of them have incorrect information. What we need is someonewith new ideas to travel to England or hire someone over there and try to find some more information and not rely on what has already been incorrectly published.
