Several years ago I posted the following info to this list, but my email address has changed since then so I am posting again and hope to hear from some of you.
My Goodfellow grandfather, John Goodfellow, was born in 1842 in Hawick, Rox., Scotland, and emigrated to Canada (ending up in British Columbia) about 1862. His line back to the earliest Goodfellow we know of is as follows:
John Goodfellow (my grandfather) (1842-1912) (m. Florence Agassiz at Agassiz, B.C., Canada). They both lived and died at Seattle, WA. Alexander Scott Goodfellow (1807-1851) (m. Isabella Forrest) of Hawick, Scotland Hugh Goodfellow (1767-1847) (m. Elspeth Scott) Scotland Archibald Goodfellow (m. Betty Irvine) Scotland William Goodfellow (ca. 1693-1740) (m. Isabel Scott) Scotland Archibald Goodfellow (m. ___ Scott) Scotland Hector Goodfellow (b.___ probably in Cumberland, d. 1642 in Berwick)
This Goodfellow family originally belonged to the English side of the Border in Cumberland, particularly in the Parish of Bewcastle, according to family sources. There are cousins of the above settled in Ontario, and also kinsmen of this particular family settled in Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina -- most of the emigrations from Scotland taking place in mid 19th century.
I am working with a number of people trying to round up loose ends of this Rox. family, and will welcome news from other researchers.
