My GrGr Grandmother was Elizabeth E. Gosnell, b. 22 Oct 1833, d. 22 Apr 1902. She was born in PA. (No other info). She married, 27 Jan 1859, James Lewis Vernay, b. 8 Feb 1834, d. 16 Aug 1890. Most evidence to date indicates that she was the daughter of Brice and Mary Gosnell. There is a Christening record from a Baltimore German Lutheran church, dated 28 Jul 1834 for Elisabeth Gosnel, born 21 May 1833, daughter of Brice Gosnel. Her mother is not listed. Brice Gosnell is found in Philadelphia in the1860, ’70, and ’80 Censuses (Censi ?). He is consistently listed as having been born in Maryland, but his birthdate is 1804 in 1860 and 1870, and 1802 in 1880. He is listed as a cabinet maker. His wife was Mary Webster, and she was born in England in 1811. They married 19 Jan 1828 in Maryland. There is a death certificate for Brice dated 15 May 1883 in Philadelphia. There is another Brice Gosnell born around 1821, who died in Philadelphia in 1865 of “Congestion of the brain” and probably served in the Civil War. I think there is a good chance that my Elizabeth and the second Brice were siblings. Can anyone point me in the direction toward Brice and Mary’s forbears and also any other children?
