Gary,
Peter was from Green County, KY until 1811. Elijah and some other unsavery fellows packed up their belongings, and gathered up all of their slaves and boarded the Green River and went to Arkansas (not a State of the Union yet). There, Peter could hold slaves. All those who went with him had slaves too and just wanted to go somewhere that slavery was not an issue for them. Arkansas was the perfect solution. They went as far as the Counties just north of Ft. Smith, to Washington and Benton Counties. You can speak more about this with Bobbie Lynch who did research on all of this and devoted most of her life to it. She writes for genforum occasionally. Look for her name to pop up and she can tell you all you want to know about those Grahams. My knowledge of them is only what she told me. Hope this helps,
Dave
