Bible Record of William Jesse Graham and Lucy Jennie Robertson, Tennessee
The following is from the Bible owned by William Jesse Graham and his wife, Lucy Jennie (Jenny?) Robertson Graham. After their deaths, it passed to my grandfather, Rev. William James Graham of Nashville, Tennessee.William Jesse was one of six children of James Rufus Graham and Rebecca Gilbert Graham.Because the pages are classified by marriage, birth, and death, I have copied them as written. All information written before April, 1905 is in the hand of William Jesse. After that date, the remaining entries are in the hand of his son, William James. Unless noted, all places are in Tennessee and any information enclosed in brackets is my addition for ease of reading and comprehension. With the exception of the first page, two columns were provide on each page for entries.I have preserved the spacing as well as punctuation.

Notes on page one, Marriage Certificate - Tillie Robertson was the sister of Lucy and J M Graham was James Massey Graham, DDS of Tullahoma, brother of the groom.I have Uncle Jimmy's dental cabinet in my home.It was in continuous use from approx 1875 to 1999.
Notes on page three, Births - The family lived in Estill Springs, Tennessee, near Tullahoma. As each child grew, they moved.
Joseph Walter went by the name Walter and was named Joseph after William Jesse's grandfather, Joseph Graham of Jefferson County, TN.Walter moved to Chevy Chase, MD with wife, Elizabeth, known as Aunt Betsy.
William met Ruth Parker in Hattisburg, MS. There is a picture in the Bible labeled "The first day I met Ruth Parker at her home 117 Bushman St, Hattesburg, Miss Oct 12 1917."The caption is written with William's left hand after his stroke which means that it was written after Ruth's death and stored in the Bible.William and Ruth lived in Nashville, TN as did William Jesse in his later years. This may explain how the Bible ended up with my grandparents.
Nathan is the only child that lived to adulthood with a death date recorded. He and wife Janie lived in Tampa, FL.
Lewis Fite died at age 5 when he fell while running with a penny whistle in his mouth. He was named Lewis after Lucy's father and his middle name, Fite, was a derivative of Lafayette that is common in Tennessee.Fayte and Fate are names from the same source. Marquis de Lafayette visited Nashville in 1825.
Notes on page four, Deaths - Lewis Robertson was a cousin of Gen James Robertson, "Father of Middle Tennessee," founder of Nashville, and soldier (Rev War, Indian Wars, Indian agent)Another of Lewis's cousins was killed in the Alamo.
Lucy's mother was Elizabeth LeGrand Glenn, a nurse who was born in England and entered the United States through Canada.
The final two entries under deaths (Lucy and Lewis Fite) anddeath dates written in ink were penned by William James Graham, son of William Jesse. All other entries were written by William Jesse using pencil.
The only child of William James to live to be an adult was my father Robert Parker Graham (1923 - 2000.)
