Re: Looking for Grandin's in Australia
I am trying to find my long lost cousin in Australia whose married name was Grandin. In about 1921 or 1924, she gave her address as C. GRANDIN and was living in East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. By 1931 the Grandins had a married daughter Elsie, and two sons, Charles (a musician living in Sydney) and Herbert (connected with the railways, with two sons and a daughter in New South Wales.)
I searched the service records for Grandin, and think her husband's name may have been CHARLES GEORGE GRANDIN. I think he may have changed his name from Addison to Grandin. When he entered the service, his name was writtenCharles George ADDISON. Later Addison was crossed out and Grandin was written over it on his service records.
Charles George Addison/Grandin was born inStawell, Victoria, Australia (c 1882 ?). His mother's address while near the end of his service was Elizabeth Ann Grandin,13 Mellenson Street, Richmond.
My cousin's married name was Grandin but at present I do not know her maiden name. It may have been Mary Hughes. She had a sister in Australia whose married name was J. Dalziel. They had family in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania (near Scranton in Blakely and Olyphant) with surnames Jones, Knight, Price and possibly Evans and a relative in Wales named Harry Jones whom she asked about in letters written in 1921 or 1924. She also commented on a family property in Wales which was being disputed in the Welsh courts. (My family's oral history was that the property had been lost for a hundred years through a gambling debt and the family was trying to recover it.)
If you have any information on Charles George or his wife, I would truly appreciate it since I have about exhausted my leads on his wife and her connection to our family.
I hope we are looking for the same Grandins!
