Re: Seeking Greenabaum Family and Information
i am researching greenbaum/greentree geneology in general, and have followed your ancestors.isaac was in williamsport before 1870, and was enumerated there in the 1870 census.he was a twin to abraham; both were the sons of jonas (john) greenabaum's second marriage.jonas arrived in philadelphia in 1834, and immediately applied for naturalization under the name lion/leon.he was not granted citizenship until 1840.he moved to baltimore, where he was a peddler, and was listed in the 1835-6 city
directory.he moved to hanover, york co., pa, about 1837,
and was enumerated there as john greenenbaum in the 1850
census.he arrived in the us with his wife elizabeth, and
two daughters rebecca (b. 1831), and henrietta (b. at sea
1834).then came william henry, a son and a daughter, all who perished in the winter of 1847-8, as well as his wife, elizabeth. his last son by elizabeth was george w. who managed to survive.jonas married hannah, and moved to dickinson twp., cumberland co., pa., in 1848.abraham and
isaac were born in 1849.jonas married twice more before his death; his third wife was nancy, who was about 10 yrs
older than him.his fourth wife was elizabeth wolf. as best as i can tell, jonas was born in 1807, not 1800. george
w. (b. 1843) resided in harrisburg, dauphin co.; abraham,
in dickinson twp., and henrietta and her family in williamsport, which was what brought isaac to williamsport
i have not been able to find out the names of the children who perished in 1847, but they died before jonas had henrietta and william henry baptized as adults in an apparent attempt to spare their lives, but william henry died anyway.you may want to carry your research to york co. for more detail.i hope this has been helpful.
were born in 1849.
