Nothing particularly curious about a family tradition claiming a non-existent relationship to a famous person. It happens all the time.It might begin innocently enough, "My surname is Wright.I must be related somewhere back there to Wilbur and Orville."Fifty years from now my grandson remembers me saying that and tells his grandson that he got it straight from me that we are related to Wilbur and Orville.

If you think that the general fathered a child by a slave, the only way to prove it will be through mtDNA as was done with Thomas Jefferson rumored paternity.
