This is a long shot, but maybe there's a connection.
My gg-gf, John Green or Greene, was born in Abbeville District, SC, in 1790.His father was William Green, who married either a Bickerstaff or a Wickliff -- we don't know which.William moved his family to Jackson County, Georgia, about 1800.John moved with his wife's family to Conecuh County, Alabama, and William went back to South Carolina (maybe to Sandy Plains, North Carolina).
John's article in the Dictionary of Alabama Biography says that his family is descended from the Robert Greene family that got a British Crown grant of the land where the Battle of Cowpens was fought.Problem is, the Greenes didn't get that land -- the Haralsons/Harrelsons did.But one of those Haralsons supposedly married a Greene.I once found a reference to that marriage on the Internet, but lost the source in a computer crash shortly after I found it and before I had backed it up.
Since yours is the second reference I've found to Greenes and Haralsons in that area, maybe there's some connection between the two.I'd be interested to know any information you have about your William H. Greene.
Thanks!
