Re: John Greene Surgeon b1590

I'm looking for this Mary Green also.Elizabeth M. Leach Rixford, in her book: Three Hundred Colonial Ancestors & War Service has her married to a Thomas Hungerford B in 1648.HOWEVER

I believe the evidence regarding his wife being "Mary Greene", the daughter of Surgeon John Greene and his wife Joan Tatersall is very very suspect.

We find in the Supplement II to the book "Three Hundred Colonial Ancestors", page 8, the following:

"Thomas Hungerford: It has been proven beyound a doult that Thomas Hungerford (2nd) married Mary Green."Smith Family," by M. A. S. Anderson, 1921, says: Joseph Gates, b. Mar. 7, 1662 d. Mar. 18, 1711/12, married Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Hungerford and Mary Green Hungerford.The daughters of the American Colonists and Colonial Daughters of the 17th Century accept this ancestry.See page 171, "300 Colonial Ancestors."

However;

Mary Greene of Narragansett, daughter of Surgeon John Greene was married to Dr. James Sweet and still having children by him in the early 1670's: Daughter Renewed Sweet was born 16 July 1671, and son Sylvester Sweet was born 1 March 1674.

Thomas Hungerford (2nd) has children listed as being born during the same period with Mary Green of Narraganset:Elizabeth born about 1670; d. Nov. 17, 1758; married about 1695, Joseph Gates; Thomas (III) born about 1672; married about 1699, Elizabeth Smith, and John, b. about 1674; m. Dec. 3, 1702, Deborah Spencer.

This same woman could not have been carrying these children by two different men at the same time.

Thomas Hungerford may well have been married to a "Mary Green" from Narragansett, but I suggest it
was not the daughter of Surgeon John Greene.Records show that she was bapized 19 May 1633.
If she was the wife, she would have had her last child of Thomas Hungerford; Benjamin sometime in her 57th or 58th year as Benjamin was born about 1670.

Any help in locating the Mary Greene from Narraggansett who did mary Thomas HUngerford would be most appreciated.
