Ralph Emerson Greene Jr., 85, of Plainview Heights Circle,
Greeneville, Greene Co TN, died Thursday evening, October
15, 2009, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1924, in Providence, RI, and was a
son of the late Ida and Ralph E. Greene Sr.
Mr. Greene was raised on Block Island, RI, and entered the
U.S. Air Corps in 1942, and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Following his service in World War II he returned to
George C. Moore Company in Westerly, RI, to work. He and
his family moved to Greeneville in 1977, and he retired
from George C. Moore Company with 44 years of service.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather,
his family noted.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph A. Pierno;
and one sister, Irene Meldrum.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Miriam J. Greene;
seven children and their spouses, Ralph and Beth Greene of
Florence, SC, Geoffrey and Belinda Greene of Salyersville,
KY, Julia and Joseph Pierno of North Providence, RI, and
Barbara and Ron Woods, Richard Greene, Lisa Howell, and
Lori Williams, all of Greeneville, TN; his grandchildren
and their spouses, Kristine and Aaron Bartlett of
Livermore, CA, Rachel Greene of Florence, SC, Chanda and
Trent Jeffords of Florence, SC, Mark and Sara Greene of
Greeneville, TN, Jessica Pierno of North Providence, RI,
Emily Woods, Lenora Woods, Abigail Woods, Monica Greene,
Brittany Greene, Nathan Howell, and Sean Howell, all of
Greeneville, TN, and two special granddaughters, whom he
raised as his own, Lauren Williams and Alison Williams,
both of Greeneville, TN; his great-grandchildren, Baylee
Bartlett, Aiden Bartlett, and Sawyer Barlett of Livermore,
CA, and Cooper Jeffords of Florence, SC; one brother,
Roger Greene of North Kingstown, RI; several nieces and
nephews; and a special friend, Grady Kelton.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.,
Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday
afternoon, October 19, 2009, in the funeral home chapel.
The Rev. Dennis Shumate will officiate.
Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. A
military graveside service will be conducted by the Greene
County Honor Guard.
