Unknown Griffin of Mississippi, story of revenge and murder
This unknown Griffin is supposed to be a great great uncle of mine. So this Griffin (first name unknown)probably lived in or around Calhoun County,MS. He was married to a woman, unknown to me, that was raped and murdered. Evidence or rumor led this Griffin man to believe that a colored man(a term used in those days)was responsible for this act of violence on his wife. This red-haired, hot tempered Griffin man took vengance on this /colored man/ by beating him to death and then hanging him. The Griffin man left town knowing he would have to live with the consequences of his actions never to be seen again. Does anyone have a similar story in there Griffin lineage? This story has been passed down a couple of generations. There is room for differences. Please respond if any of this comes close. Thank You! Briana Griffin Etie San Leon, TX.
