Yes, these are the Griffis' I am looking for.Mrs. A (I assume Amanda)M. Griffis made a General Affidavit for my gr gr grandmother's Mexican War penison May 13th of 1889. Her son John Presseley Windle was a partner in a dry goods store on the square in Bonham Texas, Griffis Owen and Windle.
When this branch of the Griffis family moved to Texas, do you know if they settled in Henderson, Rusk Co. Texas before they moved on to Fannin Co.A great aunt of mine wrote in a letter that William Griffis is buried in Davis Cemetery with a note that he was the father of Robert Griffis.Robert also made an affidavit (that I cannot lay my hands on right now).
My gr gr gr grandfather John A Windle and family moved from TN to Texas. There are hints throughout the family history that they knew the Griffis family in TN.I cannot find any record of a marriage between the two families, do you know of any in TN.I know Joseph Hawkins Windle and family, whom I assume was my gr gr gr grandfather uncle, settled in Overton County TN. Joseph Hawkins married Joanna Goad Servier.
I will forward a copy of this affivdavit to you.
