Re: Info about Antonio Griffone Nizza 1655
I have an "odd" bit of news regarding a Griffone. It is from the slave records of the San Francisco Plantation owned by Edmond Marmillion and his wife, Louise von Seybold Marmillion in Louisiana.I believe it was in St. Martin parish. The odd thing about it is they have almost at the very bottom of the 1843 list of succession of slave names a Louise (Griffone). That is exactly how they show it on the document, the last name in parentheses. However, they do NOT list her as a slave, nor is there a "job" for her.BUT, she is listed as an ORPHAN.Also, she is the ONLY one on the list that no RACE HERITAGE is listed.Only that she is an orphan and age 8.Everyone else on the list is given a race heritage.
Edmond Marmillion's father was Antoine Valsin Bozonier MARMILLION, b. 1797 in Louisiana and was still alive in 1880 @ age 83 for he showed up on the 1880 census for St. John parish, 2nd ward.
So it is indeed a mystery how little Louise (Griffone) age 8 and an orphan with no race given shows up on the San Francisco Plantation slave succession records of 1843.I repeat it does NOT show her as a slave.
